Attendants

These small jades all appear to be attendants (or servants and slaves) meant to provide support for a wealthy deceased person. Around the time of Confucius (circa 500 BCE),  the practice of burying attendants alive with the deceased gave way to using substitute images made of jade, bone and later pottery. Many of these figures have bi or other important jade items in their hands.
