Semi human face with large crest in the shape of a handle fitting - Translucent white jade with suffusion, pitting, calcification and inclusions.
- Shaped like a small, flat plaque, jade was perhaps the 'decorative' end of a larger piece.Â
- Carving details mostly rendered with incised lines; there is more elaborate work at the top of head and neck.
- Carving is similar to "human mask" excavated at An-yang, (1930s I believe), pictured in S. Howard Hansford, Chinese Carved Jades, 1968, plate 8d.
- Small, delicate carving with a beautiful flat sheen.
