Resting rabbit next to stump Semi-translucent light green jade with reddish suffusion and green-black inclusions. The reddish suffusion is probably artful (ie. man-made, but attractive). I believe this practice came into use in the Song-Yuan period, and was employed thereafter. The flat base is unusual, as is the naturalistic 'stump' complete with incised wood grain. The shape is cute alright, and quite heavy. The carving style is rougher than usual - almost like a wood carving where the chisel marks are visible. In other words, the carving seems hewn from stone rather than cut and polished with fine surface decoration. 17.2 x 9 x 9.27 cm; 1.64kg.
