Ceremonial axe with grimacing face - Green jade thickly calcified, with cracks and fissures and pitting.
- Fissures suggest this blade may have been heated or burned.
- Features of the face are in high relief - technique was to remove surrounding ground to a depth of 2mm.
- Back of axe is plain; arc shaped edge is blunt, but frightening.
- This piece is a wicked looking thing - certainly meant to scare someone.
