  • Small scale carving in the round.
  • Green jade altered to  russet and white in spots; calcification, suffusion, crystalization and surface erosion evident.
  • Traces of vermillion color adhere to inside surfaces.
  • Bear has a closed mouth, longish snout and erect ears. Eyes are rendered as concentric squares with round pupils.
  • Surface decoration consists of hooked lines, arcs, and incised squares.
  • Bear appears to be squatting and alert.
  • This piece is convincingly old in appearance - late Shang early Zhou style
