Blade 5

Ceremonial blade with face and decorative bands
  • Light green semi-opaque jade with reddish brown suffusion, cracks and widespread pitting.
  • The jade has been cleaned and polished to a high gloss.
  • The face is unusual - circular eyes, diamond nose and drooping mouth is crafted from thread relief and slanting lines on each side.
  • Three deep grooves run horizontally across the upper portion of the blade, just below the double sided hole.
  • The lattice work band is also in relief.
  • The hole is placed slightly off center, is sharply tapered on both sides and has minute ridges on the inside bevel.
  • The blade is oval in cross-section and rounded top and bottom.
  • The cracks and fissures in the jade have admitted a lot of beautiful color and shading.
  • The decoration is the same on both sides of the blade.
  • Style is pre-Shang: Longshan or similar.
  • 24 x 3.87 x 1.20 cm.
