Face 1

Face with open mouth
  • Translucent jade mostly converted to opaque red with much surface damage and calcification.
  • Carving is mostly in relief, no obvious decoration,  and consists mostly of long cuts.
  • There are two suspension holes on the top of the head.
  • The back is flat with deep arcing grooves; this piece appears to be a reuse of an earlier carved jade  which had a ribbed side.
  • The tortured appearance of the face is compelling.
  • Hongshan style.
  •  8.91 x 7.88 x 2.02 cm.
