Disk 8

Bi disk with dragons, phoenix, and face
  • Light green (now honey colored) semi-opaque jade with yellow suffusion and calcification.
  • Carving uses a lot of slanting incised lines; the decoration is mostly deeply cut incised lines.
  • The jade has suffered quite a bit from aggressive cleaning.
  • I have wondered whether the  incised carving might be a later addition to the original carving, but that is not clear.
  • The central bird medallion is arresting; it has a sort of Gorgon appearance.
  • The style seems to be late Han or 6 dynasties.
  • 23.7 x 18 x .59 cm.
