Bixie

Bixie resting on four feet with open mouth
  • Green semi-opaque jade with slight pickling of surface skin.
  • Has a triparte lion's tail and a fanciful mane or crest comming off the top of the head.
  • These mythological creatures were thought to ward off evil; surely this jovial one seems like a friendly guardian.
  • James Watt, Chinese Jades from Han to Ch'ing, 1980, fig # 49, describes a similar "crouching feline cub...[with] nobbed spine, heavy scrolled eyebrows and whiskers, round ears and snout, and protruding eyes. The front paws are round balls, but with well-detailed claws."
  • 8.78 x 6.20 x 3.42 cm.
